About the salon

Tint opened in 2017 on North Street and set out to be a colour salon first and a haircutting salon second, which in Leeds is still a slightly unusual order of priorities. The team works to a stated philosophy of educate and share: the salon doubles as a training ground, hosts product training and photo shoots, and treats continued education as part of the job. A second site operates on Wellington Street.

Technology and brands

Tint is a Wella salon with an in-house Wella colour specialist, a qualification the industry treats as the top tier of colour training. That matters most in corrective work, where the job is reading what previous colour has left in the hair before deciding what to put on it.

Team and stylists

Tint runs a large team by Leeds standards, mixing established stylists with trainees working through their levels. The salon was a British Hairdressing Awards finalist in 2014 and took best salon team at Creative Head magazine’s Most Wanted awards in 2020, and members of the team have worked shows in London, Paris and Milan.

The Space

The North Street room was designed to be flexible as much as comfortable: it works as a salon on ordinary days and converts for events, shoots and training sessions. The look is bold rather than beige, closer to a studio than a traditional high-street salon, and the atmosphere is relaxed enough that it does not feel like a place you need to dress up for.

It suits people making a real change to their colour, or undoing one that went wrong elsewhere, and anyone who would rather sit with a specialist than a generalist.

Questions and answers

Can I book online? Yes, through the salon website and its online booking system, and you can request a specific stylist.

How long does an appointment take? A cut and blow-dry runs about an hour, highlights or balayage two to three hours, and a colour correction can take a full session or occasionally more than one visit.

Do you look after men and children? Yes, men’s cutting is part of the standard menu and children’s cuts can be booked; it helps to say so in advance so time is allowed.

Can I combine several services in one visit? Colour, cut and a conditioning treatment are routinely done in one sitting, which is usually the most efficient way to book.

Do you sell gift vouchers? Yes, and they can be used towards any service on the menu.
