About the salon

RMUK has been cutting hair in Leeds since 1981, which makes it one of the longest-running salons in the city and one of the few still owned by the family that started it. Roberto and Laura built the business; their son Massi and his wife Michelle now run much of the day-to-day. Over four decades it has grown from a hairdressers into a four-floor salon and day spa on Great George Street, across from Leeds General Infirmary.

Technology and brands

Colour work runs on L’Oreal, while the spa floor is built almost entirely around Aveda: Tulasara and Elemental Nature facials, botanical skin resurfacing, plant peels, aroma wraps, and stress-fix, chakra-balancing, bamboo and hot stone massage. Guinot appears on the facial menu alongside it. Extensions are Great Lengths, a bonded natural-hair system rather than clip-in or tape.

Team and stylists

Ownership has stayed inside one family across two generations, and that continuity shows in a team where stylists tend to stay for years rather than seasons. Clients can usually keep the same colourist and the same therapist over a long period.

The Space

Four floors give the place its unusual layout: hair on the working floors, a candle-lit spa sanctuary above with private treatment rooms, and a bar and terrace that turn a half-day package into something closer to an afternoon out. The salon was a finalist in the British Business Awards for best salon design.

It suits people who want hair and spa on the same ticket: brides and wedding parties, groups marking a birthday, and hospital and city-centre staff who can walk over between shifts.

Can I book online? Yes, appointments and spa packages can be booked through the salon website, and the team also takes bookings by phone or email.

How long does an appointment take? Massages and body treatments run thirty to ninety minutes, facials around an hour, colour two to three hours.

Do you look after men and children? Yes, men’s cutting and grooming are part of the regular hair menu, and children’s cuts are available on request.

Can I combine several treatments in one visit? That is the point of the spa packages, which pair a treatment with hair or nails; the bar and terrace cover the gap between them.

Do you sell gift vouchers? Yes, for individual treatments and for full spa packages.
